This series explores Religious Humanism, our inner godliness of real and contemporary people. It is a work in progress including five paintings presently. I intend to complete a dozen paintings. I work from personal photos as well as found images. I select a mother and child out of a larger photo image and interpret according to my purposes.
The Madonna and Child is a traditional religious depiction. Employing pre-renaissance artistic notions I paint my Madonnas with gold and silver hues, haloes, and architectural features. My purpose in borrowing these holy artifices is to reinterpret and exemplify our own emergent God-likeness. Therefore, I paint contemporary mothers and their children from many faiths and traditions worldwide depicting their holy natures.
