I go to great pains to get the painting of people or pets just right. A portrait is not done until it reflects not only the likeness but also the feeling and expression of the subject. Painting pets is terrific fun. Our pets are part of our families and we want them painted with vitality. I work to capture their personalities and liveliness. When I paint people I work from photos. Candid images translate into portraits that capture personality in ways that a formal seated pose would never enable. I look for resource images of people in action, doing what they love.
